The post-Christmas lazies are certainly setting in around here; I've spent most of the last few days in bed with books, DVDs, and lots of chocolate. Most definitely appreciated after the stress of moving back home and having my luggage left behind in Copenhagen airport!
Now that the present-buying stress is out of the way, I'm wondering what I'll be doing with myself for the New Year. I've no plans yet, but here's what I'd love to be wearing no matter what the event:
The blue velour dress is available in the store now. I don't know why I get so obsessed with velour and velvet each year - they're just so seasonal, and the antithesis of the cold, dreary winter weather that's been hanging around so much lately.
Anyway, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Be sure to enjoy what's left of the holidays, and I'll see you all again in 2009 (or maybe even before)!

Vintage 1940s/1950s Makeup Tutorials
Last month I posted a couple of my favourite vintage hair tutorials, and today I thought I'd do a matching makeup post.
I love vintage makeup, mostly because it really feels as though it's worth the effort it takes to put on. I have no time for "no-makeup" makeup — it takes for-bloody-ever to apply, yet leaves you looking as though you aren't wearing any at all. Where's the fun in that?
This is my kind of tutorial; a very retro, pin-up style look:
While this one goes for a different style; Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's:
Finally, Beauty Couch has a great round-up of links for vintage makeup inspiration here.
Have fun, and good luck!

Slouchy Casual
When people come up with imaginary outfits, like the ones I post here pretty regularly, they usually involve high heels, fitted dresses, and other beautiful but rather formal things. I love to dress up, and I see no reason for keeping clothes like that for "special" occasions, but there are some days that you just want to slouch around in a pair of jeans and a giant jumper:
I think this long burgundy cardigan is perfect for the task, paired with jeans, cute socks, and soft shoes.

Review: Buttons and Skirts
Last month I posted a review of a sweater with lovely buttons on it, this month I got my hands on a skirt with lovely buttons!
I once again have to confess to choosing an item of clothing based on the button-placement. I'm an addict. I can't really be blamed, though... this skirt is button heaven! The ones on the front are wonderful, of course, but the two little buttons on the slit at the back are possibly the most adorable detail ever.
The Brown Stripe Skirt is, as always, available in the online store — indulge your own button-y delights here!

Smart Casual for Any Occasion!
Dinner with friends? Anniversary? Office party? Lounging around at home watching television? I'll take any excuse to dress up, really. Here's an outfit that I think would work for any of these!
Dressy enough for dinner with friends, pretty enough for a date (if you're in the mood for being pretty, anyway), demure enough to not shock your boss at a party, comfy enough to mooch around the house in... yep, with nice flats (be kind to your feet!) and a handbag to keep all your stuff in check, I think this dress can do just about anything.

Outfit Inspiration: Library Style
I spent a lot of time in the library today, snuggled up in a corner with my new jumper. I know that clothes aren't really top priority when you're in such a place, but I couldn't help imagining my ideal book-ogling outfit anyway.
A woolly jumper for comfort, a prim skirt to get in the library spirit, and a pair of heels that can be slipped off with ease for maximum chair-curling comfort! Add a pair of knee socks to feel like a schoolgirl, a hairband to keep any strands out of the way, and voila! You're ready to find some amazing new books, or re-read some old favourites. (Might I recommend The Time Traveler's Wife? I've yet to meet anyone — boy or girl — who hasn't loved it.)

Review: Sweaters and Buttons
Buttons are my vice. I just can't say no to them. A few interestingly placed buttons on a skirt, jumper, dress or top will have me hooked instantly. As such, I'm absolutely in love with my new knitted turtleneck sweater.
The designers could just have caught my attention with the beautiful red colour, or even the fabulous neckline... but no! They went the whole way and added four vintage-y buttons to make the whole thing just perfect. I won't be taking this off for a long time!

1920s Flapper Inspired Outfit
I've been watching some silent films lately, and taking inspiration from leading ladies like Corinne Griffith. I love the aesthetic of the 1920s, but find it quite hard to build an outfit around the look without it seeming costume-y. I've given it a try, however — tiered skirts and ruffly blouses, pearls, and the inevitable cloche hat.
I love this cardigan with ruffle detail along with these brown suede heels — they're an excellent way to keep this outfit from being too light and breezy.

Dressed for Hot Chocolate on a Cold Winter's Day
On Friday I talked about velour and velvet as the perfect material for winter outfits. Well, I put together a little inspiration, using this brown velour dress, based on a cup of hot chocolate! Is there anything in the world more comforting and warm than a hot chocolate with lashings of cream?

The Perfect Christmas Dress
Looking for the perfect Christmas outfit? Søndag recommends our ribboned velour dress (top right).
There's nothing quite like velvety fabrics to put you in the mood for cozy Christmas days, so pop over to the store to see what's on offer! If a tunic style isn't really up your alley, then you might also like our strappy velour dress, or one with a cinched waist in blue or brown.

Burlesque-esque Outfit - Dita von Teese Style!
If you're looking for a vintage look to go along with your vintage hairstyle, then pin-up style is always a good choice! Here's a little inspiration from Dita von Teese — modern master (mistress?) of the burlesque, and ever-dependable style icon.
Try a classy pair of high heels and a vintage-inspired hourglass dress to start. Add long gloves and a stylish hat if you really want to feel dressed up. Last, but certainly not least, don't forget the red lipstick!

Vintage 1940s/1950s Hair Tutorials
The girls in the Edith & Ella lookbooks are sporting some enviable vintage hairstyles, so I thought I'd post a couple of links to show you how to do the same!
Vintage hair can be a bit daunting, and looks as though it should take forever to style. These tutorials from Super Kawaii Mama and Casey's Musings, however, show you how to get a vintage look in record time:
Casey's video - below - is in two parts, so don't miss out on the second half!
So whether you're going for a vintage look, burlesque extravaganza, or simply looking for a way to entertain yourself for the evening, I hope these videos help you along the way.

How to Wear Summer Dresses in Autum/Winter with Edith & Ella
In my last post, I talked about wearing light dresses with winter coats. Well, here's another bit of inspiration - snuggle up in your favourite cardigan over a summer dress, and pop on a pair of high heels to keep yourself out of the puddles! I think this blue cardigan and these red heels from the online store are just perfect for the task.

Winter Coats and Frilly Dresses
Frilly, girly skirts and dresses were well-represented on the catwalk in the Spring/Summer 09 shows. A couple of my favourite examples below come from Anna Sui (above), and Marc by Marc Jacobs (below).
If you've been looking at runway photos, are feeling inspired, and simply can't wait to break out your Spring dresses right now this very instant, then take a look at Chloé's Autumn/Winter 2008 collection for ideas:
Throw a winter coat on over your favourite dress for an instantly wonderful outfit. Not only will the coat keep the cold out, but a simple design will help tone down any outrageous frills or ruffles and stop you looking as though you're heading for a four-year old's birthday party. (Unless, of course, that's a look you're going for; it's one I'm quite partial to myself!)

How to Wear — The Plaid Trend
Plaid is everywhere this Autumn/Winter season, having been showcased by big names like Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren in their runway shows. It's always been a favourite of mine, so I'm pleased as punch! It can be a little overwhelming, though—you're definitely going to stand out a mile if you parade around in plaid from head-to-toe. Not that that's a bad thing, but if you want to go a little subtler, then here's a bit of inspiration:
Plaid tights look beautiful with simple black — this Black Viscose / Polyester Dress and these Black Ballerina Shoes, for example. Add a red bolero to pull it all together, and your favourite red/gold/black jewellery for a bit of sparkle!
