Outfit Inspiration: Library Style

I spent a lot of time in the library today, snuggled up in a corner with my new jumper. I know that clothes aren't really top priority when you're in such a place, but I couldn't help imagining my ideal book-ogling outfit anyway.



A woolly jumper for comfort, a prim skirt to get in the library spirit, and a pair of heels that can be slipped off with ease for maximum chair-curling comfort! Add a pair of knee socks to feel like a schoolgirl, a hairband to keep any strands out of the way, and voila! You're ready to find some amazing new books, or re-read some old favourites. (Might I recommend The Time Traveler's Wife? I've yet to meet anyone — boy or girl — who hasn't loved it.)

Review: Sweaters and Buttons

Buttons are my vice. I just can't say no to them. A few interestingly placed buttons on a skirt, jumper, dress or top will have me hooked instantly. As such, I'm absolutely in love with my new knitted turtleneck sweater.


The designers could just have caught my attention with the beautiful red colour, or even the fabulous neckline... but no! They went the whole way and added four vintage-y buttons to make the whole thing just perfect. I won't be taking this off for a long time!

1920s Flapper Inspired Outfit

I've been watching some silent films lately, and taking inspiration from leading ladies like Corinne Griffith. I love the aesthetic of the 1920s, but find it quite hard to build an outfit around the look without it seeming costume-y. I've given it a try, however — tiered skirts and ruffly blouses, pearls, and the inevitable cloche hat.



I love this cardigan with ruffle detail along with these brown suede heels — they're an excellent way to keep this outfit from being too light and breezy.

Dressed for Hot Chocolate on a Cold Winter's Day

On Friday I talked about velour and velvet as the perfect material for winter outfits. Well, I put together a little inspiration, using this brown velour dress, based on a cup of hot chocolate! Is there anything in the world more comforting and warm than a hot chocolate with lashings of cream?

Burlesque-esque Outfit - Dita von Teese Style!

If you're looking for a vintage look to go along with your vintage hairstyle, then pin-up style is always a good choice! Here's a little inspiration from Dita von Teese — modern master (mistress?) of the burlesque, and ever-dependable style icon.



Try a classy pair of high heels and a vintage-inspired hourglass dress to start. Add long gloves and a stylish hat if you really want to feel dressed up. Last, but certainly not least, don't forget the red lipstick!

How to Wear Summer Dresses in Autum/Winter with Edith & Ella

In my last post, I talked about wearing light dresses with winter coats. Well, here's another bit of inspiration - snuggle up in your favourite cardigan over a summer dress, and pop on a pair of high heels to keep yourself out of the puddles! I think this blue cardigan and these red heels from the online store are just perfect for the task.

Throw a winter coat on over your favourite dress for an instantly wonderful outfit. Not only will the coat keep the cold out, but a simple design will help tone down any outrageous frills or ruffles and stop you looking as though you're heading for a four-year old's birthday party. (Unless, of course, that's a look you're going for; it's one I'm quite partial to myself!)
