Dita von Teese's Sheer Dress: Oui ou Non?
I came across this photo of her vintageness, Dita von Teese today, wearing a sheer black Jean Paul Gautier... thing. I've extolled her virtues before, in a piece on burlesque-esque style, but what do you think of this?
While my fashion sense tends to be a bit conservative (by which I mean I like my knickers covered up, thanks), I actually kind of find myself liking this a lot. Not that I think I'll be stepping out in it anytime soon - I'll be sticking to dresses that give the illusion of being sheer instead. But it's different, it's weird, it errs on the side of fetishwear, yet somehow manages to look bizarrely classy at the same time. Thumbs up, Mr. Gaultier.

Vintage Inspired Style - Mad Men's Joan Holloway

Grab a vintage-style silk shirt, a pencil skirt (the most important part!) and killer heels, then top it all off with a matching handbag. A flick of eyeliner and slick of lippie later, you're ready to get your wiggle on, just like Ms. Holloway!

Vintage-Inspired Cherry Print Skirt and Dresses
Do you like flowery, fruity, summery prints? Well, take your pick from these lovely new cherry-print dresses and skirts in the online store:
Cotton Skirt

My favourite is the maxi-dress, personally. Swooshing around in a long, floaty dress on a hot summer day = instant romantic appeal!

Vintage Style Icons: Ingrid bergman
I have always thought that Ingrid Bergman, most famous for her role in the classic, Casablanca - was really beautiful, and definitely a source of style inspiration if you're going for a vintage look! Here are some favourite pictures of mine for your admiration:

Vintage 1940s/1950s Makeup Tutorials
Last month I posted a couple of my favourite vintage hair tutorials, and today I thought I'd do a matching makeup post.
I love vintage makeup, mostly because it really feels as though it's worth the effort it takes to put on. I have no time for "no-makeup" makeup — it takes for-bloody-ever to apply, yet leaves you looking as though you aren't wearing any at all. Where's the fun in that?
This is my kind of tutorial; a very retro, pin-up style look:
While this one goes for a different style; Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's:
Finally, Beauty Couch has a great round-up of links for vintage makeup inspiration here.
Have fun, and good luck!

Vintage 1940s/1950s Hair Tutorials
The girls in the Edith & Ella lookbooks are sporting some enviable vintage hairstyles, so I thought I'd post a couple of links to show you how to do the same!
Vintage hair can be a bit daunting, and looks as though it should take forever to style. These tutorials from Super Kawaii Mama and Casey's Musings, however, show you how to get a vintage look in record time:
Casey's video - below - is in two parts, so don't miss out on the second half!
So whether you're going for a vintage look, burlesque extravaganza, or simply looking for a way to entertain yourself for the evening, I hope these videos help you along the way.
